HAPPY BIRTHDAY KHALIL!

Today Khalil turned 7! He is so excited. He got up singing Happy Birthday to himself. I am making his favorite dinner, collard greens, 0ven-fried chicken, rice and peas. Our tradition for the children is to let them bake their own birthday cake with proper supervision of course. This year Khalil wants a red cake with red frosting--I think it has a lot to do with Power Rangers. Last year it was a blue cake with blue frosting...the Blues Clues phase. I have said no to black cake and black frosting unless of course it's Halloween and even then I am not so sure. Anyway they love this tradition. We did store bought cakes last year, because I had a lot going on and couldn't focus. They all let me know they did not like that and have reminded me everyday since that they wanted to go back to making their cakes! OK fine with me I love traditions!
My son is beautiful. He is resilient, smart, kind, funny and BEAUTIFUL!

Monique,
Thank you! He is the cutest kid in the world! Yes it amazes me how time flies, just the other day he was in diapers! I wanted them to have a tradition that would create fond memories of their childhood and lessen the meemories of the foster care system. It seems to be working!

Hey babz,

it's great to see a pic of your son. I've heard so much about them from JB. For me at least, sometimes finding the energy to celebrate a kiddie birthday after the effort of the holidays and the demands of the school year can feel like a challenge, but your post reminds me that we owe it to our kids to help them find the joy in life. Everyday is worth celebrating.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY KHALIL & mommy too!

Gosh...it seems that all of your children have those infectious smiles. God has gifted you with a taste of heaven on this side with them. What a blessing!

Happy Birthday to Khalil and Kudos to you Mama Lovebabz for starting and sustaining this wonderful tradition. Having had one of the most amazing childhoods imagineable, I can assure you that this tradition along with all the others I'm sure your family has will be with your children forever and better than that, will give them a constant reminder of all that life can be for those who remember not only to love but also to show those they love that they are indeed loved ;)

Hey Sister Natalie!
You speak truth to power...I was very close to buying acake today! Time can be an enemy of a mother with children! But I am committed because they are committed!

Sister Artist,
Thank you! Yes youa re right they are a blessing in more ways than I can say.

Hey KKI,
That is my hope. That they will take these traditions and make them apart of their grown up lives.

Hey Sharon,
Yes I want them to have loving memories of joy and love and traditions and rituals. They are indeed loved.

Sister Capcity
You know I am a huge proponent of adoption...think about it!

And thank you for wishing my son a Happy Birthday!

You know what's weird? You son Khalil looks like he could be a cousin to Torrance's son. Be funny if they're related...
